Star Ledger doormat

Like I do every day, I pick up my copy of the Star Ledger. I very rarely read the sports section but if I know a good fight happend over the weekend, I'll read the sports on Monday. Today, I took a glance and noticed some guy caught a pretty good sized doormat. 26" I think. That's a big fish!

I didn't read much more than that. After hockey tonight, I met up with a few friends in the local Chili's. We were BS'ng about fishing the delaware and the various shops in the area. My friend gets a call from someone who seemed pretty upset about the article in the paper. It turns out that he's the one who actually caught and landed the fish but the captain of the boat claimed all rights to the catch and not only that, but the $3000.00 check was made out to the captain of the boat.

So now I got to thinking... Someone mentioned to me that if you go Tuna fishing for say 500.00, the captain of the boat keeps the fish you catch. Apparently, you are only in it for the sportsman side of things while the captain not only collects your $500.00, but also can collect an additional 5g's for a good sized tuna. You get zippo. Doesn't make sense to me but hey... if you know the rules before hand and decide to go, then you have to play by the rules.

My question for all of you salt water guys who participate in this type of contest... When your ourt fluking and you catch the ships winner... Wouldn't it make sense to have the person who actually caught the fish in the paper? If you're on the ship with only 3-4 other people, split the prize money as if you were working as a team... But to keep the entire purse for yourself? I don't know... It seems quite greedy to me but then again, I haven't played that game and don't know the general rules or etiquette.

What's the deal?
