Can you see the dry?

Recently I've been fishing predominantly dries and have noticed the difficulty of seeing certain flies. When fishing, a dark midge for example, casting a far distance with 6x or 7x especially at dusk, do you guys have super-human eyes or do you just look for a rise in the vicinity? And if you are striking in the vicinity...won't you spook a fish rising just to the side of your actual fly?
