New Fly:The Engelman AKA The Wet Pigeon A fishing buddy of mine (MUlrichs here on the site)was losing his mind this past winter and spent some of his time concocting this series of flies. Mike's been fishing the Catskills(and many other locales)for 15 years or so. He's got high hopes for this trio this spring. I'll let you know how the scientific fishing trials go.
Just a note, the pigeon feather is wildly iridescent(greys, blues, purples, even pinks) but the photos do not capture it.
I hope Mike will chime in.
As for what it is(taken from the announcement at the great unveiling at work):
Hook: 12 Tiemco, wet or dry(depending on the variation)
Thread: Black #6 uni-thread; red for dry variation
Bead: Dark tungsten for "deep" variation; brass bead for "moderate"
variation; no bead for dry variation
Body: 3-4 strands of peacock herl, wrapped within thread loop for
durability
Feather: pigeon neck feather from Ed Engelman's pigeon barn brood, killed
mercifully and painlessly. These are very delicate feathers, hard
to work, but lashed down well to promote durability
