Fishing Weekend

I spent all day Saturday on the Beaverkill and caught a nice hand full of small browns (10" - 12" range). Fish were rising everywhere for a small portion of the day. I hooked into a nice one but after a short fight, he parted with my fly. OLIVES were all over the place and fish were all over them.

Cairns Pool hasn't changed a bit as far as the unetiquette is concerned. I had a guy come in the water and fish about 15 feet to the right of me and every time my line crossed in front of him he would give me a dirty look. I should have said, "Hey asshole, next time think twice about standing 15 feet away from someone." I eventually caved in and moved. ugh... When will people learn. I suppose it's my own fault for fishing this pool in the first place.

Here's a comedy show for everyone. I fished the Pequest today and boy, what a circus it was. I sat down for a few minutes just to watch the show. You think Cairns is bad on a hot summer day, well you haven't seen anything. I watched as people stood literally 5 FEET or less, apart from each other. How can this be fun at all? How can you enjoy this? Anyway, I stood up and went over by one of the millions of trees hanging over the river from the opposite side from where these idiots were fishing (and if you're reading this and you're one of the idiots in the picture I'm posting, shame on you)... After watching two guys get their lines tangled, I opened my big mouth and said, "Fishing must be pretty tough..." I got a dirty look for that one. I'm standing directly across from a handfull of guys standing within 5 feet from each other. Awe... what the hell, "Hey guys... are you chumming or something?" One of the guys looks over and asked me if I fish. I guess that was his comeback line? I don't know.

Ok, so here's the picture. By the time I got to the bridge to take this shot, 4 of the people moved elsewhere, but I put little X's or arrows where they were standing. The photo may not show a totally acurate description due to the depth of field. You'll get the idea though. It was almost like these fools got together and spoke about surrounding the fish so they would all be in 1 place. And now without further ado...

Anyway, I managed to find a nice spot where I was the only one fishing and landed a few nice bows and 1 small brown! I'll post the pic of a nice 18"!
